I have spent one or two hours per week over the last several months attempting to improve my pay per click results. That may not sound like much time, but for a guy like me who wants automatic income without the need to trade time for service...well, let's just say that it's time that I don't want to spend.
I changed my ads, rearranged my ads, and tried using different words and headlines. I bought and read several books on pay per click and how to write effective ad copy.
BAD IDEA. What a waste of time.
Here's an easier way. I have used it to increase my click through of quality clicks by 100 - 400 percent, depending on the product.
- Pick your top keyword and search for it on google.
- Look at the google adwords and take a screenshot of them
- Save the results on your computer.
- 3 - 7 days later do the same search and take another screenshot
- Repeat this process over the course of 3-6 weeks
Now, what do we have here? We have a short history of the ads showing up for your keyword. You should see several adds that appear on one screenshot but not the others. These are the ads that failed. The person paid too much for clicks that did not do him or her any good.
You should also see several adds that appear on all screenshots. These are the successful ads. Copy them word-for-word and use them to bring people to your website.
Of course, be careful. If you are selling widgets that you ship to customers, make sure that the ads in questions are also from companies who ship widgets. Remember, we want paying customers, not simply clicks.
