What is “SEO”?

SEO is the process changing elements of your website so that it is more user, search, and search engine friendly. This enables your site to get a higher ranking in the search engine results, and more visitors and sales.

Part of changing your website is changing “back end” elements such as title tags and meta-tags so that a search engine (i.e google, yahoo, bing) can know exactly what your website is about and classify it correctly. The creation and addition of unique content, with the right “keyword density” is also important. Likewise, you need a skilled person to do “keyword research” so that you attract the right kind of person and customer.

The factors above are called, “onpage SEO” and though they are very important, there is limit to how much good that they can do for you. Equally important is engaging a consistent strategy for getting more “links” to your website. Each time that a quality website links to yours, it is like a “vote” that can help you get a higher search engine result. And the more votes, you get the better.

• Register your site with a free-service that will allow you to track your rankings improvement and traffic, so that you can continue to make adjustments.
• Depending on your site’s topic and your field I may have other recommendations to make, including ways to use a blog for marketing and sales and how to monetize your site and sell products or services.
