Old Cavendish Fruitcake: A case in search engine optimization
I have recently begun working on a new and fun challenge. I am improving the search engine rankings of Old Cavendish Fruitcake in Vermont.
Fruitcakes are often maligned, but love them or hate them, millions of pounds of fruitcakes are sold each year. How many millions of pounds? I don’t know and I have had a difficult time finding out. I’ll let you know when I get specific figures.
But what I like about my task of increasing the rankings of Old Cavendish Fruitcake is that fruitcakes are a perfect niche product for selling on the web. A high-quality product, along with targeted search engine optimization, e-newsletters, online advertising and word of mouth should be enough to give even the “little guy” international exposure and sales.
Stay tuned for the story of Old Cavendish Fruitcakes as they increase their ranking, traffic, and SALES. I will add posts every few weeks and you can use them as a template for your own marketing efforts. More to come - Ryan
**Brief Update, April, 9th - I am about to put up the SEO changes for Old Cavendish. I thought it was interesting that ther google ranking for “fruitcakes” has gone from #31 to #21 already - even without putting up the changes. Why? Perhaps it’s this blog post and link on the sidebar.
